DISTRICT CADRE TRAINING
Goals: To provide extended training in literacy leadership for two or more teacher representatives from individual schools, with the expectation that the participants will share information and provide models of enhanced teaching practices to influence and support teacher colleagues at the school site. Training: The cadre leadership training is a collaborative, ‘teachers as both learners and teachers’ process. Content is customized for, and responsive to, the goals and job description of the cadre. The emphasis is on building teacher knowledge and skills in effective classroom practices. Simultaneously, they are coached in strategies for transferring knowledge and peer coaching back at the school site. Participants plan staff meeting and share these with cadre colleagues for constructive feedback and input of ideas prior to presenting them at the school site. The training can be focussed on any aspect of literacy instruction. All workshop topics can be adapted, specialized and extended to meet specific training requirements and the district focus as determined by the administrators leading the initiative. Literacy Learning (NZ) Ltd workshops are founded in current research on effective practices and are designed to support instruction in classrooms for English and E.L.L learners. Strategies apply in bilingual education settings. Cadre members collaborate to plan ‘back to school presentations’ as a closing activity each training session. Getting started: Getting started: Contact Leanna Traill to discuss your goals and develop a clear focus and agreement on aims and objectives for the district cadre training.
